She admits that she has been depressed since the beginning of 2020 due to loss of loved ones coupled with the sweeping pandemic. However, after her first session, a weight has been lifted.

“I feel a strong sense of relief from the therapy session with Mr. Denning,” said the woman. “It’s a unique form of therapy and I understand why it’s gaining traction in the medical community; I haven’t felt this good in a long time.”

“The brain has two components, we have the emotional brain, which doesn’t understand time and we have the thinking brain,” said Jim Denning, founder and counselor of The Denning Center. “The thinking brain goes offline when the emotional brain is triggered, so when I perform Accelerated Resolution Therapy, we address triggered emotions in a controlled, safe environment using rapid eye movements to help desensitize the amygdala.”

Research has shown that AR Therapy as an effective form of trauma recovery. Accelerated Resolution Therapy is an evidence-based treatment that works to combat post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health ailments. It originated from the practices associated with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. In AR Therapy, eye movement (looking from left to right) is used to produce a relaxed state similar to REM sleep. During the sessions, patients will be able to recall past memories without feeling anxious allowing them to ease the painful emotions, and process and resolve the memory. AR Therapy also uses a technique called Voluntary Image Replacement to replace an alarming mental image with a peaceful, nonthreatening one.

For 30 years, Jim personally dealt with depression and anxiety and decided to do something about it. Not only did he perform extensive research on brain activity and mental health, he received his counseling degree and developed The Denning Center, which has evolved into a specialized treatment facility for Accelerated Resolution Therapy.

Time well spent, many patients have remarked that in just one session, Jim Denning’s AR Therapy has provided “unparalleled relief” for individuals living with trauma. And possibly, the cure to Covid-19 anxiety.
