Why AR Therapy?
Benefits of Accelerated Resolution Therapy
A traumatic event can be anything that threatens your sense of safety, such as an assault, combat experience, a natural disaster or a serious accident. Following traumatic events, some people develop symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS). At The Denning Center, we believe PTS is a symptom, not a disorder.
Accelerated resolution therapy is an evidence-based treatment for the symptoms of PTS. It can help you reprocess the traumatic event, freeing you from painful flashbacks and intense negative thoughts and feelings.
Compared to other trauma therapies, accelerated resolution therapy works quickly, usually getting results in just a few sessions. AR Therapy uses rapid eye movements to mimic REM sleep and allows your brain to move a memory from emotional memory to long term memory.
Chronic Mental Illness and Addiction
For some people, dealing with depression or anxiety is a long-term struggle. For people with addictions, the fight to stay sober is part of daily life. Accelerated resolution therapy can help with chronic issues like these by teaching you a new way to approach your problems and find solutions. We can help you find harmony between the thinking center and the emotional center of your brain, allowing you to find and resolve the root causes of your issues.
Accelerated resolution therapy uses visualization to revisit and resolve past traumas, but did you know you can use these same techniques to imagine future events? By setting a goal for yourself and then visualizing it, you can play out future scenarios and emotionally prepare yourself for them. We have found that this approach helps people build motivation and make important decisions.
Suicide is a public health crisis, claiming the lives of over 47,000 people in the US in 2017. At the Denning Center, we believe that much of the anguish people suffer is caused by an underlying conflict between the thinking and feeling centers of the brain. This conflict can result in symptoms such as depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress and more. Accelerated resolution therapy can address and resolve this underlying conflict, lowering a person’s risk for suicidal thoughts and feelings.
